Smart technology can genuinely change lives.

That's why we're working with the home adaptation and mobility experts at Sync Living to offer a range of ambient assisted living (AAL) and smart home technology packages to their customers.

You can now experience an ambient assisted living solution designed and installed by Epitome Living at the Sync Living Independence and Mobility Hub in Jennymount Business Park in Belfast.

The hub is the first dedicated independent living showroom in Ireland and offers personalised assessments and expert advice on mobility and accessibility products. Now, it’s also the first independent living showroom to have smart technology installed.

AAL uses discreet technology systems to create safe, easily monitored environments for people who want to lead independent lives.

Non-intrusive behaviour monitoring is used to recognise patterns in behaviour and log the data in a hub installed in the occupant’s home. The ‘hubs’ we install are Loxone Miniservers, giving scope for clients to expand their systems with other automation technology should they wish to.

When out-of-character behaviours are logged in the Miniserver, anyone with access to the app connected to it is informed via a push notification: this can include family members, friends, or carers. The push notification prompts a check in with the home’s occupant from this chosen support network.

The goal of our collaboration with Sync Living is to give people with additional mobility needs the independence to live alone that they’ve been searching for.

Sync Living has the in-house expertise to know what their customers need from smart technology, and we’ve got the practical knowledge to design and install the systems that give people that independence.

We endeavor to simplify the lives of anyone we install smart technology for. This partnership gives us the opportunity to expand how we do that in ways we’ve only scratched the surface of until this point.

The core AAL system we’re offering at Sync Living includes presence sensors, door contact monitors, and panic buttons. Options to expand the smart systems installed include access control, audio, and motorised cupboard integration, with further expansion available on request. You can read more about these elements here.

We’ve been working on this collaboration for the past six months, so we’re pleased to now be able to share the news and get people into the showroom to experience the system in person.
