When we deliver CPDs to architects and interior designers we stress the importance of the words ‘infrastructure’ and ‘network’.
Whether you’re building a smart home or not, contemporary life demands a reliable network backbone to carry multiple devices being used to work from home, study, stream TV shows and movies, and scroll social media.
Handheld devices perform best when static devices like printers and televisions are wired to an internet connection. Not everything needs to be or should be used as a wireless device.
Professionally designed and installed home network solutions build a solid backbone for the smooth running of contemporary life. They’re even more important for smart homes, as the use demand is higher than in a standard residential setting.

Centralised & Ordered
The equipment in this rack is required, in one way or another, in most Epitome Living network projects.
Without a centralised, well designed location for network equipment, similar items will be scattered around your property. That could be a router plus WiFi extenders placed in the corner of different rooms throughout the building.
This looks messy and also affects your network’s performance and reliability.
A centralised network rack also makes it easier to service and upgrade the system.

Tested & Optimised
Once your network is installed we test that it works as it should do.
Scans are of the entire home (including outdoor areas) to show WiFi coverage throughout, with settings adjusted to ensure smooth device handover between WiFi points.
Adjustments are made as needed for optimal performance management.

Signed Off & Monitored
Only when a network is tested and performing as it should do do we sign the network installation off.
You can leave the project at that, or you can sign up to one of our aftercare packages that permits us to remotely monitor your system and upgrade it as required.
With an aftercare package in place you also get priority access to us if you need urgent support - whether that’s remote or in person.
These packages are especially beneficial if your network forms the backbone of your smart system.
Our network installations are generally powered by Ubiquiti, however the final network partner for each project is based on each project’s specific scope and nature.
What happens to my smart system if the wifi goes down?
A professionally designed and installed smart system won’t rely on a WiFi connection to function. This is a common misconception, built around the fact that DIY systems that you can buy on the internet often do rely on WiFi.
A wired system is infinitely more reliable than a wireless system. And if the wired network backbone of the system is strong, you’ll rarely have problems with it.
But what if the internet does go down?
The main smart systems we design and install are formed with Loxone infrastructure. Loxone works with local-first architecture that relies on the Miniserver (the central hub of your smart system) communicating over your local TCP/IP network. The core systems of your home operate offline, so if the internet drops your home will still work.
